After Recent Shootings and Other Violence, Fremont Street Experience Implements Expanded Security Measures and Rules

According to media reports, FSE is said to be strengthening its security policies. The policies stem from two shootings, among other violence, over the past month of which one resulted in the shooting death of a 23 year old by a 16 year old on June 19th, 2022.

The expanded security measures and rules include: Metal detectors, bag checks, and a curfew for those under 21 years old. Photos of signs included restrictions on weapons, strollers, coolers, full face masks (like Halloween/maquarade type masks), wearing of gang colors, metal/glass bottles, etc.

The measures also include increased security and law enforcement presence during these times.

In a quote to the Las Vegas RJ, Capt. Hector Cintron of LVMPD's Downtown Area Command (DTAC) stated that there have been 45 reported aggraveted assaults in the area surrounding, and including, the Fremont Street Experience, of which five reported use of a firearm during the assault so far in this year. He compared this to 27 by this same time in 2021. He also stated robberies increased from 14 this time last year to 20 sa far this year.

According to reports, the expanded security and rules are not exactly new as they were usually only in place during First Friday events but will now take effect every weekend from 8pm to 5am Friday-Sunday and on major holidays.

We have reached out to FSE Management for further details and comment and will update this story if we get a response back to several questions and concerns we asked about.

Per the 9th circuit, FSE is a public forum where people are entitled to the rights guaranteed by the constitution (ACLU v CLV, 2003). NV has preemption laws reserving the regulation of firearms to the state and specifically listing where concealed firearms may not be carried (does not include FSE). The recent Bruen decision of the USSC reaffirmed that the 2A is not a second class right and that historical precedent should be applied. CLV has absolutely no authority to ban weapons from the FSE, and is violating everyone's civil rights.

Lawful ccw holders have never been the problem here. I carry on Fremont and any place else that is open to the public just for the reasons stated, it can be a dangerous place in LV. I was leaving Fremont when this shooting occurred last weekend....

Lawful ccw holders have never been the problem here. I carry on Fremont and any place else that is open to the public just for the reasons stated, it can be a dangerous place in LV. I was leaving Fremont when this shooting occurred last weekend. They can’t stop the gang shootings they have now but want to restrict lawful carry and make the rest of us subject to random acts of violence. Not cool.
