The 'mostly' apolitical flyer mainly focuses on unintentional firearms injuries and suicides in children and mentions the new Nevada safe firearms storage law (NRS 202.300) but at the end takes a stab at the threat of "Gun" Violence.

On June 24th, 2021 the review-journal posted news(https://www.reviewjournal.com/local/education/new-to-ccsd-student-registration-packets-safe-gun-storage-guidance-2386733/)that the Clark County School District would start including flyers about safe firearms storage in their school registration packets.

The non-legal binding document will be available in multiple languages and will not have to be signed though parents do have to sign a form acknowledging they have read all material included in the packet.

It is not clear how/if the material will be put out ot parents this year since registration had already started a month before this was approved by the CCSD Board of Trustees on June 24th.

According to the article, public comment was overwhelmingly positive for the measure which was originally shelved back in January 21st after some board members shared concern that CCSD staff did not give any input into it's creation.

It should be noted that Trustee Katie Williams did not support the measure and stated she would only support a resolution if it included training and resources for gun safety,

The Nevada Firearms Coalition recently obtained the text of what is to be included on the flyer and released it via their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/NVFAC):

Secure Storage of Firearms Information

Dear CCSD Parent or Guardian,

In order to continue with preventative measures to increase student and school safety, the Clark County School District Board of School Trustees passed a resolution regarding the secure storage of firearms.

CCSD would like to remind all parents about the importance of safe gun storage in their homes as well as any homes their children may visit.

Every year, nearly 350 children under the age of 18 unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else. An estimated 4.6 million American children live in households with at
least one firearm. Research shows secure firearm storage practices are associated with an 85 percent reduction in the risk of self-inflicted and unintentional firearm injuries among children and teens.

Nevada state law requires adults to securely store their firearms in cases where a child is likely to gain access to the firearm.

CCSD will continue to work with local law enforcement agencies, health agencies and nonprofits to collaborate and increase efforts to inform District parents of their
obligations regarding secure storage of firearms in their homes.

Keeping students, teachers, and staff from the threat of gun violence should be the responsibility of all stakeholders within our school communities.
